who is driving the car? 🚙
Hello dear reader,
S T O R Y
I do a lot of in person team workshops, or leadership sessions (hello, if that’s where we met) and there are definitely sections of my work that really deeply resonate with the audience.
So once we’ve spent some time getting to know our personal strengths, and why they are so good, I turn to ‘the shadow side’. I talk about how your strengths, the VERY THINGS that you are brilliant at, live for, people love about us, can get out of whack and start to lead your life in a way that is unhelpful.
Let me give you some examples
you’re deeply responsible → can’t say no → burnt out
you love being with others → care too much what they think → burnt out
you deeply care → emotion becomes overwhelming → burnt out
you come up with incredible ideas → can’t turn brain off → burnt out
you’re incredibly productive → can’t stop working → burnt out
Get the idea?
Your very brilliance, your very personality, the actual purpose that you live for, if not controlled, developed, practised, limited, will overwhelm.
L E A R N I N G
- Your personality (your strengths, talents) are the gears
- YOU drive the car
- YOU have decide which gear to select at any given time
A C T I O N
- Are any of your strengths and talents unhelpfully in the driving seat?
- What can you do to start to change this and bring it back into equilibrium?
- Recognise this will always be a weakspot for you, and learn to mitigate for it
I hope this gives you a different perspective on what’s leading your life, and how to work with your strengths as positively as you can. Remember - it’s not a strength or talent if it’s not good for you, or good for other people.
Love, Hannah x
P.S. I help people find more purpose in the everyday (because, let’s face it, however fortunate we are, we spend most of our time in the everyday). I also help people who are at a crossroads get the clarity and courage they need to choose the right path. My signature course, The Purpose Pursuit, is coming back in the autumn. If you’d like to be the first to know about it - you can join my wait list here.
