5 Career Change Lessons That Changed Everything
Hello dear reader,
Have you ever found yourself standing at the edge of something new - something exciting, yes - but also absolutely terrifying? You’re staring at this possible future version of yourself, and instead of feeling brave or bold, you just feel… stuck? Or, you want to go for it, but you aren’t sure you should, and you’ve a long list of reasons why you shouldn’t.
I know that feeling. All too well.
A while ago, I was in the middle of a very sensible career. On paper, it made sense. It ticked the boxes. I loved a lot of it, actually (or had done). But deep down, something wasn’t right. I’d catch myself daydreaming about other things. Things that felt more like me. But then, just as quickly, that little voice would show up, the one that says, ‘You’re too far in to change now.’
Or, ‘It’s too late.’
It wasn’t loud. Just persistent.
And so, for a time, I stayed. Comfortable. Predictable. Drained.
Eventually, though, I couldn’t ignore the discomfort anymore. I realised that maybe the pain wasn’t a sign I was failing: but a sign it was time for something new. Something braver. Something unknown.
That shift - messy and beautiful as it was - taught me some pretty powerful things. I’ve gathered them into five lessons I wish someone had told me sooner, and share them in full on this week’s podcast. And if you’re even thinking about making a change (career or otherwise), I’d love for you to hear them.

But, as always, here’s the heart of what I want to share with you today:
I know how hard it is to make a change, especially when the world tells you it’s too late, or too risky, or too uncertain. But I also know this:
You don’t have to stay stuck if it’s no longer working
Growth isn’t something you need permission for, it’s already yours
Starting over isn’t failure - it’s often the bravest thing you can do
I get stuck into all of this (with real stories and practical steps) on the podcast, so if this stirred something in you, come join me there.
Love,
Hannah x
P.S. I also guested on a podcast on this very subject, with another Hannah! In this episode, I chat to Hannah Ashe on her podcast “Creative Career Change” about my shift from being a leader in the public sector to running my own business. You can listen to the episode here.
