Introducing our first guest 🥁
Hello dear reader,
We are now a few weeks into the podcast, and I’m not going to lie, I am loving doing it.
The reason I am enjoying it so much is because I have now got past the initial freaking out stage of not knowing what I am doing, and I have learned to enjoy what I am doing simply for the sake of doing it. I’m focusing on success metrics that I have some level of control over:
• Picking topics that I think my listeners want to know more about
• Preparing well, and sharing honestly
• Proving that things that aren’t perfect can still be good, and useful
• Prioritising being helpful over topping any charts (which is helpful because that is currently wildly unlikely - but if you feel like telling your friends, I won’t complain!)
And so in the spirit of prioritising helpfulness, we’ve decided that every so often we are going to have a guest.
The criteria for being a guest will be someone who is aware of their ordinary-ness, and yet equally aware of their extraordinary-ness. They are people who know that they are just like you and I, flawed and unfinished, but they also know that they have something to offer, something unique, something special, something that only they can do. And they have decided to do it. Even if their knees are knocking a little bit.
And so, I would love to introduce you to our first guest, my friend, Olivia Barker-White. Along with her friends Corrie and Sam, Olivia founded a fantastic charity called Kids Club Kampala, back when she was too young to know better. Before she was too young to realise she didn’t have all that it takes to do this. And yet, look where she is, doing it anyway, and doing a fantastic job. Olivia is mum to three little ones and a wife to her husband. She’s currently on her third mat leave and so she kindly took some time out from the day to day to have a chat with me. In this episode we have an honest chat about:
• Leading an organisation and coming to terms with your own shortcomings
• Doing things before you are ready (and how to be braver)
• Juggling work and parenting
• How to take the first step
Take a listen here by clicking the button below. As always, I’d love to know what you think!
Love,
Hannah
