Overwhelm & What to do about it đ¤Ż
Hello friends,
I wonder if youâre like me, and tend to find yourself living out the following cycle. (In fact, Iâve just been through one).
1. Enjoying work and life
2. Filling up the calendar with all kinds of things
3. Managing OK and enjoying the juggle
4. Something doesnât quite go to plan
5. No longer enjoying said juggle
6. Get behind
7. Get emotional
8. Consider the meaning of it all
9. Have a chat with a loved one
10. Gain perspective
Go again. And repeat.
Your cycle may look a bit different (you may omit the âget emotionalâ optional extra, for example) but you probably find life follows this kind of Overwhelm Cycle in varying degrees.
Life can get overwhelming.
74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt unable to cope. 81% of women, 67% of men.
Many of us, most of us in fact, at times, are just not coping.
We are always on, juggling multiple tasks. Our paid work repsonsibilties and the growing stack of unpaid labour jobs keep being added to the to-do list. It seems that these days we all have full time jobs on top of our full time jobs. Saw this meme I thought youâd like:
In this weekâs episode of Youâre Better Than That, we have an honest chat about Overwhelm and get honest about a few home truths that we might need to come to terms with, and, what we might be able to do about it. Listen in to hear more aboutâŚ
⢠Why labour-saving devices are the original con
⢠The burden of unpaid labour
⢠How weâre living out our very own Greek myth
⢠Why we find ourselves doing it (this is a bit deep)
⢠What we can do about it - some actual ways to resist overwhelm (DD, WW, AA)
If youâre feeling a bit frayed at the edges, give this weekâs pod a listen (or watch) to get some understanding, empathy and action you can take.
Love,
Hannah x
