when you have a really GOOD day at work 👍

STORY

Some days just feel so good, don’t they? I was recently working with a group of younger senior leaders (in fact I did one group in Kent and another in London) and honestly, it was an absolute JOY.

I got into my car at the end of a long day, tired, but totally replenished at the same time. It’s funny how when we get to use our Strengths, it’s a different kind of tired. It’s like we still need to have a bit of rest time, but it is nowhere near as depleting as when we are doing things that pull us out of shape.

Here’s how I knew I was using my strengths

Woo: I got to meet new people and make some new connections (and we liked each other)

Communication: I got to speak, share stories and teach

Developer: I saw people leave having had many a ‘pin-drop’

Empathy/ Individualization: I got to use my intuition and give timely and personal feedback

Belief: I talked about something that mattered, in a way that represented my values.

LEARNING

  • When we use our strengths, we are much more likely to have a GOOD day

  • Knowing our strengths in the first place helps us to reflect and feed forward

  • This kind of information helps us say yes to right things and no to the wrong things

ACTION

  • Find out your strengths if you haven’t already. My intro to strengths course is the best place to start

  • Take time to reflect after a good day - WHY exactly was it good? How can you recreate it?

  • STOP before you say yes to something new - you can’t do everything, so how well is this leaning into your strengths? Don’t let FOMO be your decision maker.
