Top Summer Reads 🌞

Hello dear reader,

Last week, we cast our votes in the ballot box, and although we may have chosen different boxes to check, I think all of us in the UK can agree on the following top priority:

The weather in the UK hasn’t exactly got the memo, but summer (as in, the season) is well and truly upon us.

I was driving my son somewhere the other day when he reminded me that we have already passed the longest day (I actually felt my heart have a little weep at this news). But the undoubted good news about summer is that it might mean you get the chance to get away, or at least the pace allows you the chance to pick up a good book.

But what to read?

When life is busy and the time to read is limited, who wants to read a book that ends up leaving you wishing you hadn’t bothered?

(On that note, how do you feel about giving up on a book? Do you see it through regardless, or are you of the opinion that life’s too short to finish a book you’re not enjoying?)

Anyway, it seems from feedback and downloads that one of your most enjoyed YBTT* podcast episodes from the last few months was my book review episode

(you can find the original one HERE)

You seemed to love the way we took the book talk a bit further than just discussing the characters, but more about how it taught us more about ourselves, about life, and about relationships. So, due to popular demand, the book episode is back!

In this summer reading podcast, we dig into some of the best books I’ve read recently and what I learned from them, to give you some inspiration for your beach bag. I’ll cover a couple that I didn’t especially love too.

I don’t want to spoil the episode or give you any reason not to listen, so I won’t give too much away this week except to say we cover classics, recent releases, memoirs, novels, and non-fiction, so there’s definitely something for everyone.

As has become a tradition of late, I’ll sign off with a quote, a stat, and a question to give you some food for thought as you head into your day.

1 quote: “Inside every large story, there are always plenty of small ones.” ― Fredrik Backman, in Us Against You

1 stat: In 2021, 23% of American adults reported not reading a single book in the past year, whether in print, electronic, or audio format

1 question: Which book has had the most impact on you, and why?

Love,

Hannah x
