How to dream šŸ’

Hello dear reader/ listener

Are you a dreamer? Do you let yourself imagine your future?

Or maybe this is something you used to do and perhaps you find it harder and harder to imagine a future that isnā€™t clearly marked out for you. Youā€™re not alone if thatā€™s the case.

Iā€™ve had the opportunity to work with people aged 17 to 70 in a variety of contexts and Iā€™ve noticed a bit of a trend. On average (because of course there are outliers) the older we get, the less we dream. Or the more tempered our dreams become. The younger people that I coach will share their dreams and theyā€™re not worried about being held accountable for whether they happen or not. Not so much those of us who are a little bit older. The dreams we imagine for our future are essentially an outworking of the current trajectory that we are on. Doors are closed off to us for a variety of reasons (real ones or otherwise) and all we can see is what life is.

Childhood dreams have been put away and forgotten about because to get them out and look at them is just too painful. They didnā€™t happen, and they probably won't ever. We were naive then.

But what if we still need to dream?

What about if we started trying to imagine again, allowing ourselves to see how the dreams of the past could still have a part to play in our future? OK, we might not become a trapeze artist or a Hollywood actor but there might be something in our hopes and dreams that we need to dare look at?

Zo and I have a good chat about this in this weekā€™s podcast episode. Together we cover:

  •  Why we dream less as we get older

  •  Whether men or women are statistically more likely to dream (and who still thinks theyā€™ll happen

  •  How many of us actually do our childhood dream jobs

  •  Some practical tools we can use to help us imagine the unknown

In this episode I share a couple of the tools I use in my coaching, ways to reflect and plan that  have enabled such powerful outcomes for people. We have built these into the final week of The Purpose Pursuit course because we donā€™t want you to just discover more of who you are, we want to help you plan to get there (join the waitlist here)

Hereā€™s some final thoughts for you to take into your day before I sign off.

1 quote: ā€œYou are never too old to set a new goal or dream a new dreamā€ ā€• C.S. Lewis

1 stat:  According to Perkbox, 96% of us are not in the job of our childhood dreams. A huge 64% of us still wish we were.

1 question: What were some of your childhood dreams or passions, and how might they still influence or inspire your goals and desires today?

Love,

Hannah x

P.S. Iā€™m a guest on another couple of podcasts today, having a chat with Kym Hamer of Building Brand You. I get to talk about some of my dreams and how Iā€™ve ended up where I am, and what lessons we can take from my particular journey. Have a listen here.

I also join Amy Rowlinson on her pod, Focus on Why for a purposeful chat on what really matters - Have a listen here

 Love, Hx
