already back to burnout? 😰

Burnout is one of those in vogue phrases at the moment. And the problem with anything becoming a bit trendy, is that it starts to lose its meaning and power.
But it really matters, and you might be feeling like you're already back to the edge of burnout and your holiday was only a few weeks ago.
Let me try and explain what burnout is. This is a usual definition:
Emotional and physical exhaustion.
A growing feeling like all that you do is never enough, and so it's futile to even try.
But what we don’t often talk about, is how we might be contributing to our own burnout. We see it as external, it’s caused by uncontrollable factors, things beyond ourselves. This is part of it, but another crucial factor is who we are, our personality, our tendencies, and what we are doing that just isn’t helping the situation.
For example:
If you are someone who loves to get stuff done, you will contributing to burnout by getting stuck in the hamster-wheel-dopamine-high of accomplishment.
If you are someone who loves to think, imagine, strategise, plan, innovate, you will contributing to burnout by overthinking, overcomplicating things, changing things that could be left alone, getting stuck in the hamster-wheel-dopamine-high of idea creation.
If you are someone who loves people and likes to help, wants to see people grow, likes to get stuck in and take responsibility, you will be contributing to burnout by saying yes to too many things, doing things that someone else should be doing, people pleasing and getting stuck in the hamster-wheel-dopamine-high of being liked.
If you are someone who wants to influence and leave a legacy, you will be contributing to burnout by saying yes to too many things, getting involved in too many decisions, spreading yourself too thinly, and getting stuck in the hamster-wheel-dopamine-high of public success..
